Question: Hello I went to a chiropractor the other day. He took an xray of my spine. He said my aorta is slightly visible due to calcification. Is this a serious condition and what is the treatment for this?

Nothing to worry for

Detailed Answer:
Hello Ma'am

After going through your medical query I understand your concern and I would like to tell you that with increasing age body and it's organs undergo degenerative changes.

Aorta is the biggest blood vessel of human body which like other blood vessels also undergo degeneration in form of fibrosis and calcification which ultimately shadows on a x ray film.

But it's a natural process which needs no treatment and there is nothing to worry for. It's not a serious condition.

I hope this information will be helpful and answer your query.

Kind Regards

Dear Dr. Partap: Thank you for your prompt response. I feel better with you answer. I have always been healthy. However, I read that this can close up the aorta as the calcium builds up. Is there anothing to worry about this happening?

I usually drink milk 2-3 glasses a day for calcium supplement for my bones.

So does this add to the calcification of my Aorta?

What are good calcium supplement for my bones w/o causing aortic calcification? Thank you so much.

Brief Answer:
Hello again

Detailed Answer:
The internal diameter of the aorta is quite large as compared to all other blood vessels of the body and that practically not possible in the life span of a human to have aorta getting blocked by calcium deposition because the rate of deposition is quite slow.

At your age group you should not worry for that. Regarding your calcium supplements it's advisable that you should get your calcium levels checked if it's been 3 months of taking the supplements and if the levels comes out to be normal then you can stop taking them. Excess of everything is bad.

Hope to have been helpful. If you have any other doubts you can ask me back or else you can close the discussion and kindly rate the answer.

Kind Regards
