I understand your concern.Though both the drug is almost the same and can be used with the same dosage but i still think you should call your physician or visit him before taking this decision.

You should not take any kind of risk with your son. Because your son already has a blood level of aptiom,suddenly changing it to trileptal might be tricky, he might not have any issues but there are little chances too.Evrybody is different and responds in a different way.Hope you understand what i am trying to say.

Since your regular physician has seen your son for a long time, he will know his body better.
