Is ER EKG More Reliable Than Normal EKG Results?

default
Posted on Mon, 8 Oct 2018
Question: Hello, I went to my cardiologist office today at 230pm and his PA did an ekg but had me talking the whole time. So my dr reviewed it and said it was “slightly” abnormal but could not explain. I took a pic of the values on bottom of ekg and looked them up and they were all in normal range. I even compared them to several normal ekgs that I have had in the last 3 years. So due to my anxiety; I ended up in ER with an anxiety attack the same day. So dr did a complete cardiac work up at 730pm and he said my ekg was “perfect” along with chest X-ray and blood work. So my question concerns having two different results in one day. Looking online it seems to suggest the ER ekg would be more reliable. I’m wondering if that is true? ( side note- I really don’t like how the technicians perform their tests at the cardiologist office. Everything is rushed and never doubled check even when I ask)

Brief Answer:

Its also depends on individual opinion

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

You mentioned, the cardiologist said slight abnormalities. Actually, there occur minor changes in ECG with age, level activities like left axis deviation, changes in the axis or minor conduction issues, t wave Inversion in lead 3.

Some doctors consider these as normal while some mentions as slight abnormalities. So the conclusion from the doctors is, no need to worry as there are no significant changes and just slight abnormalities or no abnormality.

Sometimes just change in leads position over the chest may cause some changes which are acceptable and considered within normal limits.

So it's better you upload both of your ecgs here if you are having so that I can pin point the changes to you.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Would an ekg in an emergency room be better than one In a doctors office?

Brief Answer:

There is no such thing

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

There is no such thing. It depends on the kind of machines they have. Truly speaking, there is no significant differences between ecgs with respect to machine.

So this possibility should not be considered at this stage unless there is some serious issues with machine. But no one will keep such damaged machines.

Hope I have answered your query.

Take care
