Question: I'm on blood thinners. Today I was helping someone move and I just noticed bruising on one arm. Not unusual except fhat there is a significant lump under the bruise. I just started icing it but I'm a little concerned as this has never happened before.

Brief Answer:
You should check your INR.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,dear
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern.

You are on blood thinner drug. Now you have bruise. So in my opinion you should check your Prothrombin time and INR. Because it indicates your bleeding tendency. If INR is increased more then required then you need to decrease the dosages of blood thinner. Consult your doctor and plan accordingly.

Hope I have answered your question. If you have any doubts then feel free to ask me. I will be happy to answer. Thanks for using health care magic. Wish you a very good health.

It is not the bruise I am concerned about, it is the lump under the bruise. Also, you did not indicate whether checking Prothrombin time and INR are emergency procedures. Do I need to get to a hospital emergency room or is the lump no major concern?

Brief Answer:
It can be due to some bleeding.

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear...
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern.

Your lump underlying the bruise may be due to some bleeding episodes. Prothrombin time and INR should be tested in a routine laboratory. No need to go in the emergency. If your INR is high then dosages of the drug should be adjusted accordingly.

Hope I have answered your question. If you have any doubts then feel free to ask me. I will be happy to answer.
