Question: I woke up this am with a sore and swollen left angle. No prior problems and no injuries I know of . About twice normal size and sore and puffy. What could cause this? I work out 2-3 times per week but have noticed no strain or hurting before today

Brief Answer:
It could be a sprain.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the query.
It could be a sprain or contusion developed during sleep because of some rolls, twists or turn in sleep.
As of now immobilise the limb for couple of days.
As of now you can use analgesics/anti inflammatory combination like aceclofenac/seratiopeptdase for symptomatic relief.
Apply icepacks for faster recovery.
Generally the symptoms will settle in couple of days.
If symptoms persist better to consult an orthopaedic and get evaluated. In that case you might require an MRI scan.
Wishing all the best
