I Was Scratched By A Dog A Week Ago. I
Question: I was scratched by a dog a week ago. I took my first dose of anti-rabies vaccine the next day. But due to unavailability of the vaccine, I wasn't able to take my second dose. Now, almost 2 days have passed since I missed my second dose and I have procured anti-rabies vaccine.
Since I missed my second dose and two days have passed since then, I have been recommended to start the anti-rabies vaccination (ARV) from the beginning.
Please suggest. Also, please tell me if repeated dosages of anti-rabies vaccine affect my body's capabilities to produce enough antibody to fight the rabies virus. And, will taking an anti-rabies vaccine from the start will have an adverse effect on me?

Brief Answer:
This will not affect the body.
Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for using ask a doctor service.
- It’s better to follow the advise of the doctor. Start the vaccination from beginning again.
- Repeating a dose will not affect the body in any adverse way. No need to get worried for that.
- This will not affect the antibody generation also. No need to get worried. Complete course will provide prophylaxis.
Thanks
