I Was Recently Diagnosed With A DVST And Wasn’t Given

Question: I was recently diagnosed with a DVST and wasn’t given too much information in the Hospital other than its rare and may cause odd side effects until it dissolves. I was put on blood thinner and cholesterol medication. My appt with the Neuro isn’t until next week. The thing is I’m getting all these weird symptoms like heavy feeling limbs, numbness, and now when I lay down to rest my left arm goes pins and needles up and down it. They told me to expect strange things but how do you know when to ignore them or when to go back to ER?

Brief Answer:
You should get evaluated by a Doctor.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to "Ask a Doctor " service.

I have read your query.

Cerebral dural venous sinus thrombosis is a condition that poses serious risks if left untreated.

Anticoagulation is the preferred treatment, in some cases, thrombolysis done by interventional Radiologists may be necessary.

Close follow up with the treating Doctor is necessary also.

In your case, you should evaluated by a Doctor for your symptoms, you cannot decide if these symptoms are serious or not.

So, you shouldn't wait till you see your Neurologist, an evaluation at the ER is necessary.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.
