Question: I was exposed to Gonorrhea last night. I’m currently taking minocycline for acne. I plan on being tested regardless. But I was wondering if the antibiotics I’m on make me more resistant to catching the infection.

Brief Answer:
Daily use of antibiotics can provide more protection against gonorrhoea.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I can confirm you that daily use of antibiotics can provide more protection against gonorrhoea.

This is an evidence based confirmation.

Minocyline is not the preferred antibiotic in this case, but I think that it can also provide some protection.

This does not exclude the possibility of getting gonorrhoea.

So, I would recommend to undergo through the tests. You can do a urine test and a swab test to confirm or exclude the presence of the bacteria.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further
