Posted on Tue, 24 Mar 2020
Question: I visited a Dermatologist for plantar wart on left foot about 3 weeks ago. Dermatologist trimmed plantar wart callus and wart started to bleed. Dermatologist stopped and placed a bandage on foot. Plantar wart healed with what seems like small scab on plantar wart. Having a hard time getting rid of foot wart. Foot wart has become smaller with two cantharidin treatments.

My question is it Okay? Scab seems like it is not ready to fall off. How can I get scab to fall off? Should I take off bandaid?

Brief Answer:
It will heal by three to four weeks.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
It will heal by itself.
The major portion of wart is already gone and remaining part with scab will heal by itself.
You can apply over the counter available salicylate creams for faster recovery as it will slowly lyse the thickened wart and excess skin tissues. Generally it will take three to four weeks for recovery.
It will be better to keep bandaids while going outside.
Hope I have answered your query.
Thanks

Hi, Thanks! Can I continue to wash my foot once a day at night and then apply petroleum jelly on the foot after washing before placing the bandaid on the wart?

Also, are foot warts on skin contagious and can spread to other skin areas?

Certain strains are contagious

Hi,
You can wash the foot before applying bandages you can very well apply petroleum jelly also.

Hi,
One last question.

Will the scab still drop off when healing is complete with a bandage on scab? OR Does the scab need to be dry with no bandage on scab for the scab to fall off when healed?

Thanks for your help in advance!
