I Sometimes Have Leakage From My Anus When I Pass

Posted on Mon, 12 Aug 2019
Question: I sometimes have leakage from my anus when I pass gas. Recently I had leakage without the gas. I wear a pantie liner which is usually enough. It was very disconcerting to have leakage that the pantie liner didn't contain. What type of doctor should I see?

Brief Answer:
a gastroenterologist would be the best option

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

This is called fecal or anal incontinence.

A gastroenterologist is a type of doctor that specializes in conditions involving the gastrointestinal tract including fecal/anal incontinence and would be the type of doctor that would best be able to find the cause and treat.

Your GP can either refer you to a gastroenterologist or you can find one online at healthgrades.com, zocdoc.com etc

Causes of fecal incontinence include: (1)inflammatory bowel disease
(2)irritable bowel syndrome
(3)severe constipation
(4)nerve disease of the bowel eg diabetes
(5)side effect of medication
(6)spinal cord conditons

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
