Question: I'm wondering what could/would have caused a change in my eyesight suddenly. I'm 61,5 years old and I've always watched TV with the distance part of my eyeglasses; early this week I started needing my X 2.75 reading glasses to watch. I'm not due for an eye exam until XXXXXXX 3 months from now. Should I make an early appt with my ophthalmologist or my Family Physician or is this typical with aging?

Brief Answer:
You may need to go to ophthalmologist.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor service.
I read your query and here is my advice.

Normally the eyesight changes with age from 35 and over it gets worse gradually.
It is called presbyopia when eye lenses loose it flexibility and ability to focus. This happens gradually, slowly increasing the need to use glasses.
A sudden change in eyesight doesn't come as a result of aging and it may need further evaluation by a doctor.
You may need to go to an ophthalmologist.

Hope I have answered the question.

You only answered part of my question, "You may need to go to an ophthalmologist". My opening question was "What could cause the sudden change in eyesight". You didn't answer that and your response to that question read more like a child doing research for a science project!

Brief Answer:
There doesn't exist a certain condition.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again dear and thank you for asking again.
I don't know a disease or condition to cause a sudden loss of eyesight, sudden need to use 2.75 reading glasses. You may need an evaluation from ophthalmologist.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Best regards.
