Hi Alfairnie
Welcome again to Ask A Doctor service.
* As your symptoms are already improving that is suggesting that flare up is quite under control.
* This is definitely to go away for long period and may be for life time, flare up is very rare and occasional. It does not mean that you have flare up now, so you will get it repeatedly.
By now, your body may have made enough antibodies to fight against the possible bugs causing it and so you may get best immunity against the same in future as well.
* My prime focus would be
@ hydration maintenance
@ vaginal hygiene
@ avoidance of stress
@ clothing care
@ continuation of current medications
@ identify any sign of infection as redness, excess itch or else and immediately consult
your doctor for prompt treatment time to time
Welcome for further discussion.
Regards.
I went to the GP yesterday as the itching had got so bad the night before that I had swelled up . Sh doesn’t really know anything about this condition and it was all a waste of time The itching was back again last night which made me wonder if it was going away , I am now on 40mg amitripilyne just wanting your confirmation that this can disappear and I can control it, really don’t want it to stop me doing anything thank you
follow up.

Hi
I predict additional contribution of vaginal dryness due to hormone imbalance as a likely contributing factor at the age of 51 years.
In my clinical practise, estrogen creams for local application are providing excellent benefits and the same should be discussed with your consultant ( OBGY or surgeon is preferable over GP ).
Also ask for the prophylactic doses of fluconazole even in absence of evident skin infection, there is no harm in consuming the same for 2 nights.
Local application of aloe vera gel gives much better results over period of times.
Hope this information will support you.
I have came across such conditions, disappearing over time once the patient is fed up with all remedies and it goes away without any particular therapy except supportive care.
Thanks.
