Question: I have lot of relatives wit asthma but no one have gone to Emergency department wit asthma

But in literature it is said that About 1 in 2 people with asthma had an asthma attack
https://www.cdc.gov/vitalsigns/asthma/index.html

and asthma exacerbations, of which one-fourth are estimated to require emergency department

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC0000/

So 50 % will have asthma attach and about 25 % of them will need emergency department
And children more often need emergency department
https://www.cdc.gov/asthma/asthma_stats/asthma-ed-visits_2010-2018.html

does these number wich manage asthma Attackat home and dont go to emergency department depends also on person character as some will manage it at home
or some even with lightest symptom will run to hospital ?

And it is said that thous who are at emergency department Only about 6%–13% of affected patients require admission to hospital

And it is said

If you have severe asthma or difficult to control asthma you’re more likely to need emergency care and often this will involve a hospital stay.
https://www.asthma.org.uk/advice/nhs-care/emergency-asthma-care/hospital-stay/

How much % of severe and difficult to control asthma need hospitalization after emergency department visit for asthma attack

is it about 10 % ?

Thank you very much

Brief Answer:
Yes, if your asthma is uncontrolled, you need to visit ER.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Ask a doctor forum.
I can understand your concern.
Asthma is chronic, allergic disease.
It can be controlled with inhaled medications.
So if a person is suffering from asthma and taking regular treatment with regular doctor visits, he or she can not have attack of asthma and hence not require emergency treatment.
So, if your relatives are taking regular asthma medications and do regular doctor follow up, they might not need emergency room visit.
And yes, even if asthma patient has to go to to emergency, with one - two injections and Nebulization, they can be improved.
Only 5-10% will need further admission.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wishing good health to your relatives. Thanks.

Why in some studies nummber whou need hospitalization is different
As % who need hospitalization is much higher
The number of patients requiring hospitalization or emergency room visits was lower in controlled (1.8% and 1.6%, respectively) than in partly controlled (5.1% and 11.5%) and uncontrolled (6.4% and 18.6%)

https://www.resmedjournal.com/article/S0954-6111(11)00340-4/fulltext

But in othrer much lower

The total number of ED visits for asthma at participating sites was 12,518 (7,825 children and 4,693 adults). A total of 847 children (10.8%) and 322 adults (6.9%) were admitted to the hospital

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/0000/

Is it because in some coutry doctors more prefere to leave patient in hospital for follow up even cases are not so severe ?

Thank you very much

Brief Answer:
This is subjective.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on Ask a doctor forum.
Honestly speaking, we can not compare studies without knowing inclusion and exclusion criteria.
So results might very.
And above all, it is subjective choice, thing to admit or not to admit in majority cases.
Some doctors prefer home treatment while some prefer hospital admission.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks
