hi my name is asia Davidson i have very severe asthma and last year i got my tonsils removed but the doctor took out my uvuela as well but i didn t know that was being removed is it safe for a person like me who is suffering from a horrible condition to have my uvuela removed

doctor1 MD

Hi, the uvula must have been removed because of a condition known as obstructive sleep apnoea. The procedure can be done in an asthmatic person and there is no contraindication to this. Rather tonsillectomy is usually avoided in asthmatic patients as the tonsils act as barrier to the lower...

My father (age 61) has been rushed to the hospital twice within the past 6 months due to under going a severe asthma attack. They have checked his lungs, heart, and chest and continue to say that everything looks perfectly fine. Though this may be the case, it is unsettling not knowing exactly what can cause an attack and then his inhaler alone cannot fix this problem. Any advice or suggestions?

doctor1 MD

pulmonary function test can be done
avoid allergens like dust ,food etc
inhaler can be used
if it is not sufficient consult the pulmonologist change the inhaler
CT CHEST is also advisable

My boyfriend is having severe asthma attack and serious chest pain! need help..=( he was having this chest pain since this morning and is being attacked by bad asthma. we both agreed to see his doctor, but not until tomorrow afternoon since he ll be joining a painting competition tomorrow morning and doesn t wanna screw up. he started complaining about this stabbing in his heart that scatters in his neck, jaw, and teeth. i already gave him aspirin and this thankfully it eased him a bit. but the asthma wont go. he s taken three shots of nebulizer and hasn t put off his inhaler since this morning. i already set him on oxygen to help him breath better. my heart is really torn seeing him like that. but i know he s gonna get confined in the hospital if i bring him now. this competition means so much to him! he even told me it is his life! i feel the same way too since we re both painters. he s still 20 years old and is asthmatic. him mother told me he has heart problems after his birth but it eventually went off in his elementary years. he s not obese now underweight and is really careful with his diet. please help! what must i do to keep him safe until tomorrow? any advice on reflexology or any medicine? just to keep him up until tomorrow when we can finally seek medical assistance.

doctor1 MD

Thanks for the query. Severe asthma attack has to be treated not just with nebs but also with inj steroids. Since it is very severe i think u shud get him admitted as i doubt he will be ok enough to give the competiton. He needs an x ray and a cbc to see why exactly he got such a bad attack of...

I have severe asthma and was diagnosed with bronchitis last Wednesday. I was sent home with Ceftin, a clear cough round pill and steroid tabs along with xoponex for my breathing machine. I'm not sleeping, continue to cough and now hear crackling on exhale when I'm settled sitting upright and have been still for a while. I tried to go back to work this morning, but my legs gave out from underneath me once I got to the classroom. They sent me home and said I was very pale with dark eyes. My back and chest feel like somebody beat the tar out of me and I can't hardly stand up. I'm not getting quality air into my lungs. I have a doctor's appt again at 11 with my general prac. What should I say or do? I've had pneumonia twice before and this sure feels like it again. Thank you

doctor1 MD

Dear XXXXXXX,

I have read your query in detail.

From your description and from the history of having had pneumonia in the past, i am of the opinion that you may be coming down with pneumonia again. You have mentioned that you have severe asthma and you must be on regular steroids for it, hence...

doctor1 MD

HI

Your complain of vision and skin manifestation may not be due to steroid, but this could be due to some other condition, and that need to be investigated, you have to finish the course of steroid even if this is cause of your problem and if this is true then this has to...

doctor1 MD

Hi,
Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.
If the child is allergic to egg, egg should be avoided to the child.
Egg in all forms should be avoided.
And inform this issue to his doctors and pediatrician also.
Allergy is a tendency and it is some times hereditary.
Hope I have answered your...

I have a nephew who has a growth problem. He has not had a proper diagnosis but has seen several specialist who have recommended growth hormone injections . My concern is that he has severe Asthma and I have researched the growth hormone injections which state that there have been reported deaths in patients who have acute respiratory failure . I am 59, and recently had surgery to remove a very large lipoma from my back. The surgery was done in an operating room due to the large size of the lipoma. I have a severe allergy to latex - type 1 IgE mediated with anaphylaxis, and strict latex precautions were in place. I also have severe asthma secondary to the latex allergy. I do have diabetes - type 2 insulin dependant, and I am post graves disease. I was intebated. When I was extabated, I had trouble breathing. The Anesth gave me an updraft of epinepherine, and I turned blue, and my O2 sat dropped to 70%. The epi was stoped and I recovered, but had severe chest pain. I was admitted and had the chest pain again the following morning. Evidently I showed an atypical rise in my Troponin T levels, with a negative CKMB. I also had some EKG changes. I was transferred to the large medical center, and was evaluated quite extensively - all was negative (stress echo, nuclear stress, )no angiogram was done. I was on a nitro drip and also on heparin IV. Nothing showed except this elevated troponin t level, and they discharged me without a real diagnosis after 24 hours. What do you think happened to me? Could it be related to my latex allergy? ? histamine release?? My tryptase level was 18.5 Could I be allergic to epinepherine? I also showed some fluid around the heart - ? why?

I have been taking half tablet of montair lc along with 2 tabs each of telmisartan 4omg and amlodipine 2.5mg daily along with the above and restyl 0.5mg at night since I have insomnia. Frankly all these medicines make me tired and irritated and i dont feel motivated to do anythig. Is there anything you can suggest. Thanks.

We have a 17 year old son who is on Xolair Injections every 2 weeks for his severe Asthma. Also, daily maintenance meds of Symbicort, Allegra D and Zyflo. Has been on Xolair for close to 9 months. His symptoms appear no better - His doctor has been literally "scratching his head" as to why his treatments are not working - even ordered echocardiogram which came back normal. Here is probably the problem..... Right after that about 2 weeks ago, we found that he has been chewing tobacco the whole time. Would this cause adverse reactions to cause the medicines not to work. We are doing everything we can to get him off of it, but he defies his father by saying he will not quit. We are grasping at anything that will "scare" him to know how bad this is. Please help us if you can. There is no way that the nicotine cannot be harmful to his lungs which are already weak -- and I don't have to tell you how much we are spending on the Xolair to keep his lungs "healthy" - and looks like it is being wasted.
