Question: I have just been diagnosed with DCIS from a mammogram that showed calcifications. I had a biopsy and am waiting to see a surgeon next week. This has all happened within 2 weeks time. I am very concerned because I do not understand the pathologic report. This was my final diagnosis: Ductal carcinoma in situ with the following features: Architectural patterns: cribriform and solid types. Nuclear grade-High nuclear grade. Necrosis: Central expansive comedonecrosis present. Longest confluent tumor focus: 5 mm. Microcalcifications: present in in-situ carcinoma and non-neoplastic breast tissue. Negative for invasive carcinoma. Estrogen and progesterone receptor status: Estrogen 95% of tumor cells with strong average intensity. Progesterone receptor: Positive 25% of tumor cells with moderate average intensity. Can you explain in layman terms just what this says.

Brief Answer:
It shows pre-cancer

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.

I understand your concerns.

This report shows pre-cancerous condition. It does not show any XXXXXXX cancer. So there is not much to worry. This needs to be operated and after that also if no cancer is found then it's very good result.

Hope this helps.

Regards
