Posted on Wed, 15 May 2019
Question: I have been on metrogel to treat my bacterial vaginosis for the past five days. My last dose was last night. I am finished with the gel but I am experiencing side effects today. Nausea, dizziness, headache, clumpy white discharge, etc. I am wondering how long these symptoms will last. I also would like to know if it is safe to have sex tomorrow.

Brief Answer:
Can be a mixed infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.

The symptoms of headache, nausea, and dizziness may take 4-5 days to subside completely. The persistent white clumpy discharge suggests that the infection has not cleared yet. This can be a mixed infection also. You may need oral antibiotics and antifungal agents like Fluconazole to get rid of it.

A vaginal swab culture sensitivity study will help in detecting the infection. It is best to avoid having sex until the infection is completely treated.

Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow-up queries that you may have.
Wishing you good health.

Regards.
