Question: I have been experiencing some fresh blood in my stool,it usually starts to fall after I.have begun passing motion. I have had a problem of piles 3-4 times in my life, with diet and tropical ointment it gets alright.this time I could not feel any lump which I normally feel during piles. I have been passing slightly constipated mo tion for a week or so,generally my stool is very soft .it's only today after 2 days of blood I can feel a very slight burning itch in my rectum area. please suggest ,do I need a physical examination if yes what type of doctor should I see.

Brief Answer:
No you do not

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

What you describe sounds like either piles again or a fissure. Both completely harmless. If you do not experience severe pain, you should try to keep your stools soft. Local ointment with a local anesthetic combined with a nitrate may help. Also, if you have never had a sigmoidoscopy, I suggest you have one at your convenience.

Hope this helps. Please let me know if you have further questions.

Brief Answer:
Probably no need

Detailed Answer:
Hi again XXXXXXX

If you have recently had a sigmoidoscopy there is no need for another. If not, you should have one performed by either a gastroenterologist or a colorectal surgeon.

The oinments you could try are doloproct or diltiazem.

Let me know if it helps. Best wishes.
