Question: I have a sort of tickle in my chest that sometimes feel like something is stuck in my throat. It has come and gone over the past few days. I am a teacher and a coach, and a few of my athletes are quarantining at home for COVID exposure. Should I get tested or could this just be acid reflux?

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have gone through your query and here is my advice.

As per your history, there are several causes for tickle in throat which should get evaluated.

Please let me know do you have fever, cold, cough, nasal congestion, headache or history of allergy/ recurrent acid reflux?

Still as you said, few of your athletes are quarantined due to covid exposure, so I would suggest it would be better to consult with physician for detailed clinical examination.

He may procure complete hemogram, throat swab, chest x ray sos as per evaluation. Further treatment mainly depends upon the underlying condition. For acid reflux, you can take syp. mucaine gel after consultation.

Till then continue saline or betadine gargles and steam inhalation. Avoid hot and spicy foods. Avoid smoking if you have it. Avoid exposure to allergens/cold dry air.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
