Question: I have a small lump in my throat behind one of my tonsils and my doctor's office is closed today. I'd like to get a quick opinion about whether to seek care. I have taken a few pictures and can send them if provided with an email address. I would prefer not to have a phone call right now. Thank you!

Brief Answer:
It looks like you are having allergic pharyngitis

Detailed Answer:
Hii. Welcome to the Ask A Doctor service.

It looks like you are having allergic pharyngitis. The lump behind the tonsils looks like granular pharynx due to allergic pharyngitis or acid reflux. It can be lymphoid follicles of the tonsil. So no need to worry. It looks normal. But still you get it examined from ENT surgeon. Take more water. Avoid smoking and alcohol.

Please review if you have any queries.

Thank you for your answer, Dr. Basak. Just to be certain (I imagine this is what you saw), but I'm referring to the bump/lump behind my left tonsil. Do you know whether an antihistamine might help? I've taken them before for allergies/hay fever. Also, is there a certain amount of time in which this should resolve if it's granular pharynx or lymphoid follicles? I may not be able to see a specialist right away due to COVID, so I may need to monitor from home for a little while. Thank you again!
