Question: I had open heart surgery in 2010 , and 2 weeks later was reopened due to an infection. I have been working in Arizona and have been working out in the outside pool everyday. Today I noticed a blister formed on the top of my open heart surgery scar. Do you think it could be from the sun? I live in PA and will be flying home Friday night.

Detailed Answer:
Hello Sir

After going through the medical details provided by you I can understand your concern for your health and I would like to tell you that yes it could be due to the direct exposure to sunlight or could be a simple occluded sebaceous gland secretion of the hair follicle (if it’s whitish in appearance and small size).

I would like to suggest you to just wait and it will get healed by itself. Also I would like to suggest you to apply good quality sun screen before getting out in sun daily.

I hope this information will answer your query.

Kind Regards

It's not whitish so I'm hoping it's from the sun. I don't know if I should go to the e r for a check up or not when I get home.

Hello again

Detailed Answer:
If the blister is right over your surgery scar and is causing constant itching then you can see your primary physician once as a precautionary measure.
