I Had Knee Replacement 2 Months Ago. The Orthopedist Saw

default
Posted on Thu, 2 May 2019
Question: I had knee replacement 2 months ago. The orthopedist saw my X-ray after 7 weeks and said it appeared excellent. However I have adhesions (he said) in the back of the knee joint which is causing a failure of the joint to straighten out. I love to walk and hike so this must be taken care of. I'm undergoing therapy which hurts like a you-know-what and I think it's getting better slowly. I may have to be anesthetized and have it "manipulated." About me I am a female 79 years old but in excellent general health. I know how critically important exercise is and want to resume aerobics and hiking so as to stay healthy. My question: what is this manipulation and what can I expect fro recovery? In case I have to have it (probably.)

Brief Answer:
The manipulation under anesthesia is recommended to fix knee stiffness.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I understand your concern.

The manipulation under anesthesia is recommended to fix knee stiffness.

We recommend it usually when physical therapy does not help with the knee stiffness.

During the procedure, the surgeon will break up the scar tissue or adhesions that are causing stiffness.

No incision is required.

After this procedure you may feel changes immediately in the days after.

You will feel an improved range of motion.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
