I Had A Complete Blockage Of The Coronary Artery 2

default
Posted on Mon, 29 Oct 2018
Question: I had a complete blockage of the coronary artery 2 years ago. My E/F is now at 50%25 due to partial permanent damage in the left part of the chambers of the heart. My medicine is
Exforge 10/160
Concor 5
Concor 2.5
Aspirin
Plavix 75
Crestore 20

My question is: could inhaling Poppers be life threatening? I sometimes sense left arm pain as well as short breath but heart beats do not exceed 75 under Poppers effect.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome back on "Ask a Doctor" service!

I passed carefully through your concern and would like to explain that taking Poppers (even through inhalation) under your health conditions is not considered safe.

This is not due to a direct effect of limited amounts of inhaled Poppers.

Instead, the main reason supporting such a conclusion is related with its specific vasodilatory properties that may potentiate the hypotensive effects of your current medications (Exforge and Concor) leading that way to a dangerous and even life-threatening hypotension.

As the Poppers effect is limited to a few minutes, it often results in repeated inhaled portions in order to maintain the desired effect. This would exacerbate such an adverse interaction with your medicines.

As a conclusion, blood flow may become reduced (to the brain, through coronary arteries, etc.) with dangerous consequences.

In addition, I recommend discussing with your attending cardiologist on your recent clinical symptomatology (left arm pain and shortness of breath) in order to investigate for any possible new cardiac ischemia and need for therapy optimization.

Hope to have been helpful to you!

In case of any further questions, feel free to ask me again.

Kind regards,

Dr. Iliri
