Question: I had a Brain MRI. All came back normal except bilateral fluid in mastoid air cells. I’ve had extreme frontal headaches and pain behind my eyes. Dizziness and unsteadiness on my feet. Is this related? Will this clear up on it’s own? No diagnosis of ear infection.

Brief Answer:
Hope you have a good health

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX thank you for your question and I hope I can be of help to you today.

I am sorry to hear about this. The fluid in the mastoid air cell can be incidental finding with MRI of the brain and it is very common. The fluid collection in the mastoid air cell just a small number of patients, this relates to inflammation disease of the middle ear or mastoid. If you do not have any symptoms I would not be concerned.

The symptoms that you have with frontal headaches and pain behind your eyes and dizziness with unsteadiness on your feet are can be related if you have a complication from inflammation of mastoid, you should see an ENT specialist even though you do not have a history of ear infection like fever, irritability, lethargy, ear pain and redness, drainage from the ear.

I hope that I could be of help to you today. Please let me know if you need any clarification. If you have any more questions, I will discuss them with you further. Wishing you good health.
