default
Posted on Wed, 22 Jan 2020
Question: I fell last night and pretty sure my shoulder went out of socket. I heard/felt it kinda go back in. Now lifting my arm or moving forward or backwards or putting weight on it (even lifting a cup) hurts. Should I use a sling or something? I'm on vacation and cant see my normal doctor. Thanks

Brief Answer:
It could be a contusion.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
It could be a contusion only. Dislocation is unlikely because dislocation is a painful condition and you will not be able to move the affected limb.
As of now immobilise the limb in a sling or arm pouch. Apply ice packs for faster recovery.
If the symptoms persist better to consult an orthopaedic and get evaluated. An X-ray is required to rule out dislocation.
Wishing all the best
