Question: I am just getting over an UTI and was given microbid 100 twice daily. Using the urinary tract strips, indicate a trace of blood in the urine. I have no UTI systems at the moment. Should I be worried. (This is the second Uti in 2 weeks, and the 3rd this year). I am a 66 year old female.

Brief Answer:
A little blood in the urine is expected if you have urinary tract infection

Good day, and thank you for being with 'Ask A Doctor' service!

A trace in the urine dipstick should not be worried song the fact that you are still on antibiotics for a second uti. oftentimes because of the infection there will be a little blood in the urinary system. this should go away once the infection is treated.

I suggest also to get an ultrasound KUB to assess the kidneys and the bladder why you're having repeated infections.

Cranberry pills or juice very helpful to prevent future urinary tract infections.

I have had the ultrasounds for kidneys and bladder. I just have a benign cyst on one of the kidneys.

Brief Answer:
One to two urinary tract infections per year.

Detailed Answer:
generally females are allowed one to two uti recurrences or occurrences per year. women are more prone to urinary tract infection because of the short urethra thereby the bacteria is able to go inside the bladder and cause infection.

it's good that you had already a normal ultrasound showing only renal cyst. These renal cyst does not cause any problems nor does it cause the infection that you're having.
