Will Synvisc Help With The Pain After A Medial Meniscus Tear In The Left Knee?

Posted on Wed, 6 Jul 2022
Question: I am 70. 5'6"..185....in February I tore the medial meniscus of my left knee. Had steroid shot but only mild result. Doing physical therapy now . Helping some but left meniscus area is still sore. If the physical therapy doesn't help significantly , will Synvisc help?? Will it help with the pain on the type if tear I have??? I take care of my 94 year old mother, and surgery is not a viable option now because I have to be available and can't do surgery! The MRI says" there is a large complex tear of the posterior horn and body of the medial meniscus with markedly truncated appearance of the posterior horn . There is a cleavage component of the tear extending to the anterior horn . Subtle displaced menus flap over the anterior horn body junction is also suspected." Is there any other pain option other than Synvisc....hyaluronic

Brief Answer:
Arthroscopic repair can help.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

The torn medial meniscus of the knee takes time to heal. If the physical therapy does not help much the Synvisc injection can help in decreasing the pain. This will increase the lubrication and decrease in resistance will decrease the inflammation and pain in all types of tear.

The other option is arthroscopic repair of the tear. You can discuss with your orthopedist regarding the repair as it involves lesser rest and early recovery.

I hope this answers your query. In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out. Wishing you good health.

Brief Answer:
Synvisc can provide a temporary partial relief.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Synvisc can be given before finishing the physical therapy. It will provide a temporary relief for few weeks. It may also need additional pain killers for a full relief.
