I Am 51 Years Old And Three Years Post Menopause

Question: I am 51 years old and three years post menopause. Over that time I've occasionally had what feel like menstrual symptoms; aching breasts, feeling of heaviness in the abdomen. Last night I became violently ill, vomiting, and am feeling sick today. Had some diarrhea...and last time I went to the bathroom, I was bleeding as if on my period. Called my doctor and set up an appt for Tuesday, but would just like to know what the possibilities besides cancer are...

Brief Answer:
Hyperplasia of endometrial lining or cervix uteri issues.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor service.
I read your query and here is my advice.

The symptoms you are experiencing don't signify a single condition but possibly two or more different conditions.
The symptoms of nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain and feeling sick may signify a gastrointestinal viral infection.
About bleeding, firstly make sure that bleeding cones from vagina not from rectum because hemorrhoid bleeding may be confused with vaginal bleeding in toilet.
If the bleeding comes from vagina the main reason can be hyperplasia of endometrial lining or cervix uteri issues.
Atrophy , that often happens in menopause can cause light spotting not period bleeding.

Hope I have answered the question.

It was definitely vaginal, showing up on the toilet paper, not hemorrhoidal. I was also wondering, I have been treated for hashimoto's for several years. Recently my thyroid has taken up some function again on its own. Can that kind of fluctuation kick one out of menopause?

Brief Answer:
Not much related to thyroid issues.

Detailed Answer:
I don't think this bleeding can somehow be related to thyroid issues.
You have more than a year in menopause and every bleeding at this time should be evaluated and not neglected.
Probably it can be related to endometrial lining hyperplasia.
