I Am 44 Year Old Female. For The Past Year
Question: I am 44 year old female. For the past year I have been having abdominal cramping and random pains, bouts of frequent bowel movements, bloating along with a feeling of incomplete evacuation. I have been to a GI doctor he feels it is IBS and recommended a colonoscopy. Is a colonoscopy necessary I have not been passing blood, loosing weight... I had an endoscopy two years ago and was cleared for celiacs disease
Brief Answer:
Definitely yes for colonoscopy.
Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for your query dear,
Yes. your doctor is correct about his diagnosis...
It looks like a case of Irritable bowel syndrome but unfortunately, this is a diagnosis of exclusion which means that when nothing is wrong anatomically with the patient despite all possible tests but symptoms are there, the patient is labeled as having IBS.
I would also recommend you to go for a Colonoscopy.
Thank you
