Question: I HAVE BEEN HAVING EXESSIVE PHLEM PRODUCTION WHEN I START TO EAT. after SWALOWING 2 BITES OF FOOD,. COPIOUS CLEAR, SOMEWHAT FOAMY PHLEM STARTS COMING UP IN MY THROAT. THE FIRST 2 GOBS ARE TOTALLY CLEAR, THE THIRD BEGINS TO SHOw TRACES OF THE FOOD I HAD JUST SWALLOWED, THE FOOD TRACES ARE LESS THAN 5% OF THE PHLEM VOLUME. SOON THEREAFTER MY SINUSES BEGIN TO FLOW, ADDING TO THE PHLEM PRODUCTION.

THERE SEEMS TO BE NO PHLEM COMING UP FROM THE BRONCHI, NO COUPHING OF ANY KIND FROM THE LUGS.

I SUSPECT THAT THE MUCOUS MEMBRANES IN THE AESOPHOGOUS ARE THE SOURCE, WHICH SPREADS UP TO THE SINOUS MEMBRANES.

I HAVE HAD ROEN-Y BYPASS STOMACH SURGERY ABOUT 22 YEARS AGO, WHEN I NEEDED TO LOOSE ABOUT 120 LB. OF WEIGHT. THE VOLUME OF MY SMALL STOMACH IS STILL ABOUT ONE AND HALF EGG IN SIZE, I AM CAREFULL NOT TO EXEED THIS WHEN EATING, I ALSO CHEW MY FOOD VERY THOROUGHLY, LIKE BABY FOOD BEFORE SWALLOWING.

IS THERE SOME MEDICATION THAT WOULD DESENSITISE THE ASOPHOGUS MUCOUS MEMBRANE. HOPEFULLY SOMETHING IN LIQUID FORM THAT I COULD HAVE A SIP OF BEFORE I STAT EATING???

I will bring up any advice I get from WebMD with my general practitioner, I see him every 3 months for other reasons

Thanks for you assistance!!!!

Brief Answer:
Probably gastroesophageal reflux disease, follow the advice below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Your symptoms seem to be related to gastroesophageal reflux disease.

This is why the symptoms start after you eat food.

I recommend you to use antacids such as Maloox three tablets a day.

I also recommend to use medications to lower the acidity in the stomach such as Omeprazole 20 mg in the morning before breakfast.

I also recommend to use a decongestant to help with the sinus congestion such as Sudafed.

You should drink liquids and avoid food that can trigger the symptoms such as spicy food.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
