How To Determine The Paternity Of A Child?

default
Posted on Tue, 21 Jun 2016
Question: I have a question regarding my pregnancy and paternity. My fiance and I split up for a while and I slept with someone else on September 13th, 2015. I had my period on October 13th, 2015 and took several negative pregnancy tests just to be sure I did not get pregnant. I found out I was pregnant on November 17, 2015 after I had gotten back with my fiance in October. All the math that I do says that if I were pregnant by the other man in September, I'd be much further along and almost due, so I am doubtful that he would be the father. I just need some reassurance that I am correct.

I should mention that I'm due August 1st, 2016 and am running about 5 days ahead. I'm 28 weeks pregnant today but with the additional 5 days ahead, I'd be closer to 29 weeks.

Brief Answer:
Fiance is the father. Repeat ultrasound scan.

Detailed Answer:
Hello Dear,

Thanks for writing to us. I understand your concern.

1) If you got period on October 13th, then there is NO chance of pregnancy from sexual intercourse with someone in the month of September. Also, your pregnancy test was NEGATIVE at that time.

2) In ultrasound scan report, 7 to 10 days difference from actual gestational age (which is calculated from last period date) is considered as normal thing because ultrasound calculates gestational age on the basis of gross fetal maturity at time of procedure. You should repeat the scan to confirm the same.

In my opinion, your fiance will be the actual father of growing baby. Do periodic check up to your doctor and enjoy your pregnancy.

Hope, I have answered your query in more detail. Wish your good health and take care.
