How Can Restless Leg Syndrome Be Treated?

default
Posted on Tue, 8 Aug 2023
Question: Hello, My Neurologist recently changed my Restless Leg Medicine from ropinirole er 8mg - 2 or 3 times a day and 2mg ropinirole 2 times a day to the generic of Mirapex at a dosage of 3mg once a day. The ONLY reason we were looking at any change was cost. The Pharmacist told me that while it doesn't take as much Mirapex to do the job, her professional opinion was that this dosage would not do it for me. My Dr.'s office is in the process of a move and I have tried for 4 days to contact them and inquire the theory or plan she has behind this and to convey the Pharmacist information. I understand there needs to be a baseline with medication and to determine a starting point, yet, neither the Dr nor the Pharmacist are the ones that will be walking the floor, unable to sit or lie down if it is not enough. What is your opinion of this dosage and change?

Brief Answer:

Choice of these drugs depends on severity of symptoms.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Honestly speaking, choice of treatment for restless leg syndrome (RLS) is based on severity of the disease.

If your disease is severe then ropinorole is the best drug.
Pramipexole (Miraplex) 3mg per day would not be sufficient to match your Ropinorole dose.

I think you will need 6 mg per day. Strangely, in XXXXXXX Ropinorole is cheaper than Miraplex.

Please let me know your weight and symptoms frequency so that I can guide you better about dosage.

Hope I have answered your query.

Take care
