How Can Redness And Occasional Swelling In The Urethra Be Alleviated When Diagnosed With HSV-1?

default
Posted on Fri, 4 Oct 2019
Question: After unprotected sex I contracted HSV1. (Blisters in mouth, occasional blisters on thighs etc.) From day one though, I felt a tingling sensation in my urethra and in genital area. Urethra was inflamed and has lessened in redness overtime but the redness WILL not completely go away. Still have occasional tingling and urethra sometimes gets more and less red/swollen. Acyclovir is taken daily to control skin outbreaks but nothing has gotten rid of red urethra. It seems like a permanent inflammatory response. Is there a way to get rid of the redness??? It’s been 6 months.
Any ointments, drinks, medications?
Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Do you have any urinary symptoms ?

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for query .

Based on the facts that you have posted you had acquired HSV 1 infection after unprotected sex 6 months back and have been taking Acyclovir and antibiotics .

However yo have noticed your urethra to be red and getting tingling in urethra off and on .

The redness of urethra is mostly due to residual inflammation and can be cured by taking long term urinary antiseptic like Nitrofurantoin twice daily along with urine alkalizer Citralka thrice daily .

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.

Thank you.

There are no urinary symptoms, just the occasional tingling and redness.

Isn't Nitrofurantoin an antibiotic, meaning that it is for bacteria? Why would that be an appropriate treatment for HSV1, the virus?

I will take it if it will get rid of the redness, but I want to confirm that it is the right thing.

Also, if your recommended treatment doesn't work, what is the next thing you'd recommend? Thank you.

Nitrofurantoin is an urinary antiseptic and helps to reduce inflammation .
