How Can One Treat Degenerative Changes And Pseudo Arthrosis Leading To Movement Restriction In An Athlete According To An MRI Report?

Question: my college athlete received this interpretation from her foot MRI - please interpret for me (picture?) and suggest possible future treatment plan (we meet with team doc later this week so I hope your comments will prepare me!):
1) accessory navicular bone with broad-based irregular pseudo articulation along the juvenile synchondrosis at the navicular. Marrow edema on both sides of the interface. Findings indicate a developing degenerative changes in probable hyper mobility about the accessory ossification focus.
2) stress changes with small non displaced subchondral fracture of the talar head. Marrow edema radiates throughout the talar head and neck.
3) additional sites of stress reaction affecting the lateral cuneiform bone and third metatarsal base.
4) peroneus longus tendinopathy without tear

Brief Answer:
Mainly stress related changes.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

The MRI scan report that you have is suggestive of stress related degenerative changes in the foot. The accessory navicular bone is a normal finding but the degenerative changes and pseudo arthrosis can cause a pain and restriction of movement.

The non displaced fracture of talar head needs proper rest for healing. The tendinopathy is also a stress related change and will improve with rest and regular physiotherapy. Rest and oral pain killers will help in an early recovery.

I hope this answers your query. In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out. Wishing you good health.

Dr. Praveen Tayal
