Brief Answer:
Yes it may be side effect

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Actually, more the medicines, more are chances of side effects. That is why one should take minimal medicines for any condition.

Regarding the bloating:
- You must check that this problem started after starting which medicine?
- Among the medicines, esomeprazole (in nexpro-L), Olmezen, Isonorm, Atorvastatin, Voglibose can cause bloating and/or abdominal pain. I am suspecting voglibose as the main culprit as it acts locally in intestines to inhibit absorption of sugars. I think it can be omitted after consulting doctor. Second medicine that can be omitted is atorvastatin if lipid profile in under control.

Some ayurvedic preparations are helpful in expelling gases. These can be taken for short term relief. I know a few brands like Gasex, Gasso, etc. Better to take them under guidance of ayurvedic practitioner.

Massage of tummy and exercise is also helpful.

Hope it helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.

that's fine madam..but we want alternative medicine for Voglibose if jt is the culprit because it's compulsory to use it. also i am attaching the reports plz check them. tests were performed in Feb. this year. if you want us go for fresh tests we will do. as of now he is suffering from bloating, as usual, with no other complications. & plz suggest if any other ayurvedic syrups are there instead of capsules. he is using anti depressants also because of this bloating issue which has been affecting him. 2 times Doc. suggested to go for colonoscopy but resisted himself saying it's not a big thing to worry about. Shall we go for colonoscopy also?? patient is getting so irritated due to bloaing issues & it's been on for a long time. plz find the attached reports madam.

Brief Answer:
Voglibose can be omited

Detailed Answer:
Hi again

I have seen the attached reports. Both voglibose and statin can be safely omitted safely as his lipid profile and blood sugar are well controlled.

He can simply take combination of glimepride and metformin e,g Diapride-M. Voglibose only function is to lower sugar absorption from gut. If his sugar intake is further reduced, there will be no need for Voglibose. Voglibose and acarbose are two sister medicines and both will cause bloating. No alternative.

He does have erosive gastritis. Both medicines and acidity are the culprits. He is already on acid-suppressing medicine.

Ultrasound abdomen is normal except for some prostate enlargement. Prostate enlargement will cause some obstruction in urination.
Though colonoscopy is done routinely after age of 60 yrs, still its every person's personal choice. Not really indicated for him.

Gasex syrup is also available by Himalaya.

It is unfortunate that we are putting patient on anti-depressants, rather than cutting down the medicines .
