Brief Answer:
Swollen papillae,..additional information needed...

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,

It is highly likely swollen papillae. Papillae are small rounded protuberance on the surface of the tongue that contains taste receptors. Papillae usually get swollen as a body's reaction to an upper respiratory tract infection. There is nothing to worry about them, with the recovery of the upper respiratory tract infection they also return to a normal state.

To be complete, I would like to ask following questions:
-When did you notice the bumps?
-Are they located on the side or in the middle?
-is the location of the bumps symmetrical, on one side or both?
-Are they painful when you press on them?
-Do you have red, swollen tonsils, sore throat?

Thank you,
Malik Amonov MD

Brief Answer:
It is highly likely lingual tonsils

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for the follow-up.

Mid-line location of the bumps, their size and association with upper respiratory infections indicates a lingual tonsils. It is a lymphoid aggregate located at the base of the tongue. The lymph nodes got swollen as normal body response to the infection and shows that your immune system is fighting with infection.

You do not need to worry. The bumps eventually should disappear after you recover from the upper respiratory infection.

Regards.
