How Can A Small Lump Near The Uvula Be Treated?

default
Posted on Thu, 17 Aug 2023
Question: Hi,
I have a small lump (or something) near my uvula (on the right side). It doesn’t hurt specifically, although I have a sore throat sometimes, especially in the right side. It has the same color as the flesh and a small yellow dot in the middle (but only sometimes). I noticed it for 3 weeks now. I can also send a picture. My doctor said it’s probably an inflamed lymphoid follicle and it’s nothing to worry. Is it normal to still be there?

Brief Answer:
Lump near uvula

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

On general inspection, the throat appears normal and such follicles can appear especially after an infectious or inflammatory episode. Only observation for a further 2 to 4 weeks would be required to see if the area enlarges sufficiently to consider further workup in consultation with your doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hello and thank you for your response.
So if the area doesn’t grow, can I consider it normal and expect it to always be there without being concerned about it?
On the other hand, if it does grow, does it mean that there is an infection or rather indicate that this is some kind of a tumor or something worse?
Thank you.

Brief Answer:

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Rather than a lump or growth, its just benign lymphoid tissue based on the image you uploaded. So, Yes, it's likely to resolve. Even if it persists, it shouldn't be a matter of concern.

If it grows and leads to obstructive symptoms then it would require further investigation.

Hope I have answered your query.
