Question: Hi, our son who is almost 4 years old has developed strep 3 times in the past 4 months, and I wanted to see how concerned we should be about it? I have attached some lab results...the nurse said he could have strepB but I thought only pregnant women get that? From what I can tell he has ClassA and ClassG strep? Please let me know, and what we should do next and if we should be concerned. He has taken antibiotics 3 times in the past 4 months.

Brief Answer:
No need to worry

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for using the Ask a Doctor service.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concern. I have checked the attached report. I need to ask whether he currently has sore throat. Unless he currently has sore throat you need not get concerned and no further intervention is required irrespective of of the type of Streptococcus involved. He has already received antibiotics and you need not worry.

He does have a little sore throat but it's getting better...the concern is does he have multiple groups of strep? Are any serious? Did you take a look at the document? He has had it 3 times in the past 4 months.

Brief Answer:
Multiple strains can be present. No need to worry.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back. I have indeed checked the attached report.

Since he has sore throat, you need to make him gurgle with lukewarm water and recovery will occur in a week or so. I would also insist on another round of antibiotics.
