Question: Hi, i have a problem with my right leg toes, i had an infection and my toe nail was removed by a local surgery, it happened in XXXXXXX on nov 5, doctors said that the nail will grow up back in a month, it hasnt grown yet, another problem is i currently live in europe and temperatures have dropped down to 5 degc outside and in the apartments it is 15-20 degc. I find it painful even to walk, what is the best treatment to overcome this pain on the nail less toe. And what are things to be done in order to have a quick nail growth. I wear slippers inside the apartment and try to wear normal shoes when i walk outside.

Brief Answer:
Regarding toe nail

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to ask a doctor service. I have gone through your query and noted your concern.

A great toe nail would take at least 4- 6 months to grow back completely and around 2 months to emerge from under the proximal nail fold. Since it has been only a month since surgery so it would take another 3-5 months for it to grow back. As far as pain is concerned you may soak it in warm water, twice a day, use proper padding on the that toe while walking and keep your feet warm.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if you need any more assistance.

Thank you very much for the answer.
I have few more clarifications.
Can you recommend any external skin cream or ointment to reduce pain?
Also please advise if practising any kind of fitness exercises like cycling where my toes are not being strained is recommended?
While taking shower i have been covering my toes from soap and water so far for a month, till how long this should continue?

Brief Answer:
Regarding painful toe following nail avulsion

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
You may try topical Diclofenac gel or Spray. You may exercise if you are not in discomfort. Cycling is not an issue. No problems with washing your toe with soap water as the wound must have healed.
Take care.

Dear Doctor.
Yes the wound has healed, and soaking my feet in hot water helps very much. Please would you recommend any brand ( like novartis) for the name of ointment with diclofenac chemical composition. For your kind information at this moment I have at home the diclgenac sodium gel (ecofenac sandoz lipogel - skin ointment) and also dexpanthenol/dexpanthenol chlorhydrate de chlorhexidine (bepanthen plus cream). Which one do you recommend?
Thank you for your suggestions so far.
