Brief Answer:
Not likely to transmit fresh infection....

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

From what I understand, you used a damaged lancet and that was sitting in the drawer for 8 months. Any blood or body fluid stains on that lancet would have dried and disinfected during last 8 months. HIV virus or other hepatitis virus cannot survive for that long; so you need not be overly worried about being infected now.

In my opinion, you are safe from any kind of infection from the damaged lancet.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need clarifications.

Brief Answer:
Minutes to weeks....

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Outside human body when all body fluid is dried up HIV can survive for few minutes only. Hepatitis can last for weeks (3-6 weeks) and not more. That lancet has been lying around for 8 month - a very long duration for both HIV or hepatitis to survive. I would not order any tests in this case.
