Hi. I Had This Freaky Thing Happen To Me Today.
Proper investigations can sort out the daignosis.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for posting your query.
I am Dr Sudhir Kumar, Neurologist, and would try my best to help you.
I have noted the clinical details. Based on these, there are two possibilities:
1. Epilepsy- in view of jolting of body, which was involuntary, we should exclude epilepsy. As you were not unconscious, it is likely to be complex partial seizure. A brain MRI and EEG would help in further clarifying the diagnosis.
2. Narcolepsy- in this condition, patients have excessive daytime sleepiness and sudden episodes of loss of muscle tone leading to falls. Other feature is sleep paralysis. Polysomnography, including median sleep latency time (MSLT) can help confirm or exclude this disease.
I sincerely hope my reply has helped you.
I would be pleased to answer, if you have any follow up queries or if you require any further information.
Best wishes,
Dr Sudhir Kumar MD (Internal Medicine), DM (Neurology) XXXXXXX Consultant Neurologist
