Question: Hi I am a 44 year old female. Last night I had an episode of brief intense cramping (felt in my lower back around hip, down leg, across lower abdomen) I am on cycle day 20 of a usual 26 day cycle. The pain lasted for a few minutes then seemed to disapate. What could cause early cramping (I usually cramp day or two before my period)

Brief Answer:
It sounds like kidney stones

Detailed Answer:
Hi Juffer74,

What you describe sounds like kidney stones. I suggest you have a urinalysis at your GP, and if there is microscopic blood, you should have kidney function tests and a computed tomography scan.

Hope this helps. Please let me know if you have further questions.

Brief Answer:
See if you can wait it out

Detailed Answer:
Hi again Juffer74,

If you can manage with OTC painkillers, I suggest you wait it out. It doesn't sound serious. How are you feeling now?

Looking forward to hearing from you.
