I have seen this since when she was 3 months old. it has increased with her weight. she was born 1.5 kgs 35 weeks premature. now she is 6kgs at 5 months. please suggest. is it a something to do with inguinal hernia??? what are the symptoms I should look for..

Hello Shanaya,
Welcome to Ask A Doctor service
I have gone through your query and understand your concern.

A swelling in the inguinal area can be inguinal hernia. But I would like to get few more details before confirming. Kindly go through the following:

1. The picture is not available to me- kindly try uploading once agin or email to YYYY@YYYY with subject as "attention Dr. Muhammed Aslam. TK"

2. Does the swelling enlarge while crying or straining at stool/urine?

3. Is it visible when she is sleeping calmly?

4. Have you been to a pediatrician before for this issue?

Kindly get back with details, so that I can guide you better
