Question: Hi Doc,
Just a general enquiry. From a couple of years i am consuming pan (containing tobacco).
Just this anxiety about, what are the actual risks of developing cancer or anything serious from it?

Hello,

Consumption of Paan can cause serious effects including cancer of oral cavity structures such as tongue, lips, cheek, gum, gingiva, oesophagus, palate among others. The risk is quite high and it is important to quit the tobacco as soon as possible. After discontinuation the risk of cancer decreases slowly and reaches very low level after some years.

Considering this fact it is never late to stop tobacco consumption.

I recently had my health check ups done, and everything seems normal as of now. Hope that i do quit soon.
