Question: Hi - I am really struggling w/ something.

I have been taking a medication called Viibryd for a month and a half at 15 mg. This medication has been working great for me except about a week and a half ago i started having out of nowhere these horrible side effects of increased anxiety, increased gas and GI problems, and zaps in my head, along with tiredness and general malaise as well. I spoke to my doctor who said that i could probably go up to 20 mg of the medicine and it would help the other things calm down a bit since its still quite a low dose. However, I am planning on trying to get pregnant soon with my husband and she also was thinking it was time for me to try and switch to zoloft. I have been on Z in the past and it hasn't worked too great but i never tried it over 25 mg.

I have started taking Zoloft at 25 mg the past three days and I am extremely tired. I don't know what to do - go back on the Vibryyd and go up to 20 and deal with side effects along with possible problems in pregnancy or try the zoloft which is making me so tired. I need help!

Brief Answer:
These side effects will last for less than a week.

Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for using ask a doctor service

You have just started with Zoloft. Zoloft is known to result in side effects like tiredness, fatigue, gastric upset or even increased restlessness especially in first week of therapy. You came down from Viibryd and are on Zoloft 25 mg and this is the reason you are seeing these side effects. But these will not last for more than a week. After around 10 days you can increase the dose to 50 mg.

Just remain on therapy and you will be alright. Zoloft has been studied in pregnancy and is safe so if you have plans of getting pregnant then better to remain on this drug.

Thanks.

I hope this helps, please let me know if you need more clarifications.
