Hey Doctor For The Last 3 Weeks I Have Had

Question: Hey doctor for the last 3 weeks I have had problems with the skin on my scrotum. For starters the skin itself has become a mild red colour with visible red veins, the skin also feels kind of rough and dry to touch. It’s not itchy or anything but I do sometimes feel a mild burning sensation. I am unsure why this is occurring but I was using hydrocortisone 1% cream on and off for a couple of months on the penis shaft because of an slight allergy to latex condoms that was causing an itchy red rash so I am unsure if that could be a cause of it that rash is now gone as well and I have stopped treatment over a month ago. I’ve never really and any problems with my penis or genital area in my entire life until I got a girlfriend 6 months ago and started having regular sex with condoms I even got a yeast infection somehow which has since been treated. Is it possible that the latex condoms are the root cause of the issues I am having? I have also tried non latex but they were even worse off and caused balanitis. To add both myself and my female partner have been tested for STI’s twice over the last 6 months and we both are clean so I don’t believe it is that. What do you think it is and what other tests can and should I get done?

Brief Answer:
It can be allergic dermatitis.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query.

The symptoms are likely suggestive of contact dermatitis associated with inflammation, probably latex allergy.

As of now, you can apply steroid-antibiotic combination like Betamethasone-Neosporin for symptomatic relief.

You can change the brand of condoms to look for any response.
It is unlikely to be STD and you can consult a Dermatologist if symptoms persist.

Wishing all the best.
Thanks

Hey doctor so it definitely looks to be dermatitis most likely caused by the latex condoms after visiting my GP which I am now treating with Hydrozole cream.

These are the condoms I have been using;

What exactly is in these and what should I try that’s different? I am just struggling to find a condom that won’t cause these symptoms I have also tried the Skyn non latex and my symptoms were exactly the same if not worse than the latex ones I’m using. Is there anything that you’d recommend? Also how long do symptoms usually take to resolve after a flare up and can these constant flare ups have long terms effects if I keep using condoms that cause the symptoms?

Brief Answer:
You can try polyurethane condoms.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
You can try condoms made of polyurethane.
The symptoms will improve once the allergen is removed and there will not be any flare up. These allergic eruption does not have future consequences unless you develop scars.
Wishing all the best.
thanks
