Hey Doctor, In The Last Month I Started To Go

Question: Hey doctor,

In the last month I started to go back to the gym after not having gone in a year and half. I started having gut issues about two years ago after a couple rounds of antibiotics and eventually it caused me to stop going and I had to undergo a bunch of tests including a gastroscopy/colonoscopy but they never found anything they just said I have a sensitive gut/ibs. My main symptoms being an ache like pain in my upper gut after I eat and a feeling of fullness. Now when I started back up at the gym I started to notice a big flareup in my acne and I have had it under control for a couple of years but now all of a sudden it’s spiked back up why is this do you think and how can I stop it from getting worse? The other question more so related to my gut is I’m trying to gain weight but I’m really struggling with my stomach pain that I get after I eat and from what I read I have to eat more calories than I burn to gain muscle? I have always been skinny and I currently weigh 57kg and have never really gotten it past around there sometimes it goes a lot lower to around 53kg and I’m around 175cm in height.

Brief Answer:
Can be due to gastritis or IBS.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The feeling of fullness after eating can be related to gastritis or IBS. The flare up of acne is not related to exercise. Increasing the fluid intake can help. To increase the weight, increase in calorie intake along with a high protein diet is needed to build the muscle mass. You can also get your hormonal levels tested to find out any hormonal disturbance causing the loss of weight.
I hope this answers your query.

Hey doctor,

Just one thing on an unrelated note I’ve noticed this lump on the left side of my neck closer to the back side of neck. It kind of feels like a hardish lump and I’ve had it there for about a month now. I went to the doc when I first got it and he said not to worry about it and check back after another 3-4 weeks but it still seems to be the same. The lump isn’t actually visible by the eye i can only feel for it if I turn my neck to the right and feel for it. What do you think it could be especially being there for quite a while is it worthwhile getting tested could it be something like lymphoma?

Brief Answer:
Less likely to be lymphoma.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
The lump that you can feel is less likely to be due to a lymph node swelling as it is palpable in a certain position only. In case the lump is larger than 2 cm in size then it is best to get an FNAC done to find the type.
Hope my answer is helpful.

How are FNAC tests done and are they painful or dangerous in anyways? Can they be done by my gp or would I have to be sent off somewhere to do it?

I don’t believe it is larger than 2cm in size though and has pretty much stayed exactly the same.

Brief Answer:
FNAC can be done by your GP.

Detailed Answer:
I have seen the attached images. This is a small swelling and can be a soft tissue swelling like lipoma. FNAC is a simple and safe test. This can be done by your gp or at nearest pathology lab. It is a routine test and is done easily.
Regards.
