Question: Hello, i received a cat scan report of my head and it states that my superficial temporal artery is larger on the left than right, with unremarkable appearance. Could this be why I am getting headaches? Can they take it out?
Thank you, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Temporal arteritis to consider.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service.

I have read your query.

In some cases, headaches may be associated with temporal arteritis (an autoimmune disease).

Since the imaging showed a larger temporal artery on one side, this diagnosis ( temporal arteritis ) is a possibility.

Confirmation needs a temporal artery biopsy.

Treatment includes mainly the use of corticosteroids.

Please also discuss with your doctor about these issues.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.
