Hello I’m 49 Years Old And Been Having Irregular Period

Question: Hello I’m 49 years old and been having irregular period for a while. I haven’t had a period for 3 1/2 months and now i got a period but only comes out when i urinate. Very little is on the pad and it’s a brown color. Is this normal

Brown blood is old blood and this can occur. Since only a small amount of blood is seen and it is coming out slowly then what is seen would be old.

Irregular periods can be due to different possible causes, the most common are: (1)menopause/perimenopause

Perimenopause-this is the period before menopause. Menopause is only diagnosed when there has been a year with no symptoms

(2)polycystic ovarian syndrome

(3)emotional stress

(4)physical illness

(5)thyroid disease

(6)high levels of a hormone called prolactin

It is likely that the changes are related to perimenopause. During perimenopause , the levels of hormones vary and because of this fluctuation of hormones, the timing of the periods can become irregular.

When the periods stop for a whole year, this would be menopause
