Question: Hello, I recently noticed this friction type area on the head of my penis. when I have an erection I barely noticed these VERY VERY small skin-colored bumps on the glands. I can't even see them without an erection. but I noticed that I have recently had almost a constant fever and I am wondering if that is possibly the cause. it doesn't hurt while urinating and it isn't itchy or painful what-so-ever. after doing some research I found that my results do not look like herpes at all but almost look very similar to some of the milder forms of balanitis. I had sex roughly a month ago and it was unprotected for a few seconds before having protected sex. the girl has not ever had any symptoms of an STD and was checked for STDs before this. I recently bought a male sex toy about a week ago and I started noticing this a few days after that, So I am wondering if I am experiencing a reaction to the rubber in that? I would really appreciate someone's help, I'm kinda scared.

Brief Answer:
Contact dermatitis or frictional dermatitis

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to ask a doctor service. I have gone through your query and viewed the image.

It could be due to an allergy to condom or material used in sex toy or perhaps due to friction from the sex toy. Doesn't seem like a STD. I suggest you to use a moderately potent topical steroid e.g either mometasone furoate cream or triamcinolone acetonide cream, twice daily for a few days.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if you need any more assistance.

Hello, Thank you so much for your answer. So assuming it is what you say it is would it be possible for it to spread further down the penis? is it possible for the shaft of the penis to be affected by the friction or rubber as well? I would also like to note that The last few times I had sex I was using a different condom type and brand as usual, Is this sometimes the case when switching?

During the day I always feel fine, however, Whenever I get home I always feel sick and feel like I have a fever. Is dermatitis the cause of the fever too? I am scheduling a meeting with my doctor to talk about the creams you recommended. Is there anything I can do in the meantime? such as lotion or switching soaps?

Thank you so much for your reply! I'm so sorry for all of the questions, I am trying to study for my final exams right now and this is sort of stressing me out.

Brief Answer:
Dermatitis on glans

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Since the skin of glans is sensitive so it is more likely to be affected by dermatitis (allergic or frictional) as compared to the skin of shaft. Switching to a different brand is not commonly the reason for allergy to condom since these days almost all the brands are made of the same ingredients except that there could be some additive or fragrance iin some which may rarely cause allergy. Fever does not seem to be a part of the dermatitis. You may use a moisturizer to calm down the skin till you can procure the steroid cream. You may also use an OTC topical steroid e.g hydrocortisone (cortisone cream). That may just do the job for you
Take care.
