Brief Answer:
Lung cancer is unlikely in your age- details below

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service,

I carefully read your query and understand your concern.

Lung cancer is very uncommon in your age, it generally affects people 65 years and older and it is very rare in people younger than 45 years of age.

Smoking weed may affect the airway and may cause inflammation of the throat and lungs as well.
Thus, the bleeding you had is very likely due to scratching the throat to bring out the phlegm. The throat in your case may be inflamed due to the use of weed and may bleed easily.

There is no clear association between lung cancer and weed smoking as yet- this is a thing that is still being studied and no clear results are available.
Weed smoking may cause inflammation of the small airways in the lungs and also may reduce the immune response and favor lung infections.
So, if you bring up again phlegm with blood, it is best to have a check with your doctor and have your lungs examined, and if needed, a chest X-ray.

To conclude:

- in your case, very likely the bleeding is due to the throat being inflamed from weed use and being scratched to bring out the phlegm

- if you get another episode of bringing up phlegm mixed with blood it is best to see your doctor to rule out lung infection (lung cancer is very rare in your age)

I hope this answers your query.
I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.
